Circe

Circe is the Goddess of magic.  In Greek mythology she is known as a sorcerous, an enchantress, a nymph.  Circe would transform her enemies into animals.

Circe was the daughter of Helios, the god of the sun, and Perse, an Oceanid.

This painting is by John William Waterhouse which was completed in 1892.  Circe Invidiosa  is his second depiction, where she is seen poisoning the water to turn Scylla, Circe's rival for Glaucus, "into a hideous monster".
