The Quest

Book I

A war raged on the battlefield
Two Knights fought against each other
Breaking no code of honor
They fought evenly matched
The Lady watched and waited
Wondering with her heart
What would be the outcome
Would she find what she had sought for eternity
Eons of past and present
Echoes of the centuries
Flooded into her soul
Memories of another battle, another time
One held the white rose
One held the red rose
Would either unlock her heart
Would one possess her soul
Love surrounds her closely
As the moth hovers near a flame
The Knights continue the dance
The Lady waits and wonders
Hunger drives them onward
Each with a need to take her hand
Honor binds them equal
When the prize is so very grand
The sun beats down with a fury
The sounds can be felt to the bone
Each knights love holds them spellbound
To loose is to spend a life alone
The White rose has the advantage
Being close to his loves home
The red rose holds ladies eye
and intends to keep her heart his own
The past has its memories for the white rose.
The lady knows them well
The red rose holds her hearts strings
Can he keep her love the future can only tell
The battle rages onward
Their armor bleeds like skin
Her love their deepest wish
Holds her honor till the end

The Lady sits by the window
Closes it from the battle sounds
She wonders if the White Knight
Knows her secret thoughts
Of love and lust and hunger
For a love once thought to be lost
Of desire and pleasures
That fill her nights with longing
Her thoughts fill the night with whispers
Echoing in every corridor
They seek to confuse and mislead her
She lights a candle and they vanish in the mist
Daylight approaches and the battle wages on
She can hear their cries of war
Outside the castle walls
She wonders can they hear hers
Who will be the one to scale the castle wall
To take her from within
Freeing her from the spell
Cast upon her by her soul
I have yielded the field to you good sir
Why must we fight this way
Her love is ours to keep
Lets clasp our hands in friendship and live another day
But the Red rose knight eyes hold anger
And cannot except this gift
He rather put the White rose to the sword
The end would be quite swift
I do not doubt your love for her
I know it is very strong
But I cannot renounce my love for her
To do so would be wrong
Look now good Sir, the Lady turns away
We forget her thoughts of what could be the best
I offer here and now to prove my love is strong
I will journey on a quest
I will task my self to the highest mountain
then reach up into the sun
>>From the brightness of the sky I will find
A light to chase off shadows and prove I am the one
I know her secret wishes
Her deepest dark desire
I will sacrifice my life for her
It will be her happiness that I will aspire
For now she is trapped with in a castle
The spell has the strongest hold
Are you willing to quest your self
And face perils untold
The Red Knight falters
Failing not with his strength or courage
His armor seeks to betray him
Wounding him twisting words into lies
He searches for his faith
Strength of purpose, guidance, honor
Doubting his quest, the sword strikes
Drawing first blood near his heart
As it trickles down his chest
He fears the blackest vision
If he dares to question his Lady's heart
Will that blow end him
Or will it give him hope
Love hides within every passing moment
It teases and beguiles him
Entrapping him in its arms forever
He looks through the mist that clouds his vision
'Tis love that keeps him alive now
Tired now, his heart wounded
He lifts his arm...the battle continues
The white rose eyes fill with tear drops
As the red rose blood begins to flow
I do not wish to kill you
the thought ways heavy on my soul
Sir I love this lady dearly
and on my honor as a knight
If you search for strength of purpose
You would see there is not need to fight
I am a Knight of the white rose
And would gladly share her hand
With any knight whose quest
was happiness as their plan
But if your nature is selfish
and your heart stands untrue
then feel my wrath and take my blows
as I do great harm to you
Now I challenge you sir knight
To look into your self and see
If your desire for this lady
Will not bring her misery
My armor is love my sword is truth
I must ask is yours the same
Will you yield to her love
Or will you cause her pain

The Lady looks out through stained glass
To a field of red below
She sees two figures there at arms
Her heart splits in two
She cries out loud to deaf walls
In her ivory prison tower
Can no one hear her pleas to stop
Tears flow freely from her eyes
Her heart is broken in two
Can it be mended with passing time
She sees the Red Knight falter
And cries out to him her love
She sees the White Knight yield the field
Knowing he too wants her love
The Red Knight pauses then thrusts his sword
The White Knight bleeds now too
I never meant to harm you
I just wanted a love from the past
You have dealt me a fatal blow
My life is fading fast
The White rose casts his sword away
and looks for his long lost love
Wanting to find her smile
He looks to high above
Through the Ivory tower
Behind the tented glass
He knows her pain is deafening
And promises it will all come to pass
He stumbles to the foot of the tower
And finds a vine therein
with all his strength summoned
He climbs the tower then
His life flows out the breath comes in
His quest he cannot stop
Vine in hand and love in heart
He climbs up to the top
My love I am here but fading fast
please come into my arms
Your kisses true is the only cure for me
Its stronger than any charms
With rose in hand and banded knee
he falls down to the floor
My life will always be love for you
just as the sea will wash the shores
He dips the white rose in his blood and hold it out to her
You see we are not that different the Knights us two
I am more than any one man
I would be anything for you
I would forfeit my life to break the spell
and free you from the keep
My life is nearly over
Death is much like sleep

The Lady sees it all from her tower prison
Imprisoned not by a door but walls of air
In the center of the tower lies a bottomless pit
Only where the Lady waits is there stone to walk upon
She has a corner of the tower
A bed to lie down in
A table and chair by the window
Nothing else but walls of air for her prison
She looks outside sees the battle over
The White Knight dying on the tower wall
The Red Knight sinks to his knees
His life's breath ending soon as well
For the Red Knight no longer believed
In trust, in faith, in love
His jealousies overcame him
Cheating him of his honor and pride
The Lady cries out
For within the Red Knight was the key
The key to the prison walls
With him dying all hope is lost
The wizard in the tower is cruel
He comes for her each night
Taking of her what he pleases
Leaving her with the rest
And now her hope is dying
To be free of her prison
It dies upon the heart of the Red Knight
The White Knight will not find it in his quest
For indeed he too is dying upon the tower wall
Only if he continues his quest will he find the key
Does he have strength to do this
Strength of purpose, mind and heart
The Lady steps back
Knowing she will fall forever
With the next step
Who can rescue her now
She can no longer withstand the pain
Brought on by the wizard
Brought on by the tears of the Red Knight
She steps forward in the abysses
Falling now forever falling
As she has been falling for centuries past
Never to attain what she seeks
Freedom and love lost to her
She falls
She fades into the darkness
All around her is wind and dark
She falls
NOOOOOOO shouts the white rose!
Leaping into the abyss after his love.
It will not end this way.
Together falling into to the darkness...
Hand out stretched he takes her up.
And clasps her hand to his wound
You have the power to heal
As powerful as you can love.
He places his hand on her heart
I can heal your wound as well
We have been falling long before you took the last step
But the dark magic only made us think we were safe
We have but one choice my love
Fall forever until death takes us
Or find the light in our hearts
To rescue us from oblivion
I will stay here with you till the end
My soul is at rest because I have learned to accept
It is easier to accept ones fate
If you have someone to accept it with you
The white rose knight closes his arms about her
and hold her very tightly
he whispers only one word to her
Believe

The Lady cannot breath
Though the air rushes by her like
Winds of fate
She floats against it
The storm begins
It rages within her soul
She feels the White Knight
Brush against her skin
And into her heart
They continue the fall
Down into the darkness
The winds whisper a single word, "Believe"
The rain begins
The Lady feels it on her face
It drowns her with it's tears
She feels another's lips upon her own
Giving life to her
The sensation of falling disappears
She awakens in the arms of
The White Knight
They survived the great fall
Together they lie in the bottom of the tower
The key remains on the outside
Hidden within the Red Knight
Who lays motionless on the field of battle
Save for the flow of his life's blood
It drains from him more easily than honor
His heart beats only faintly now
The Lady hears it from a distance
As she lies trapped within the tower still
But she is no longer alone
Her eyes melt into those of the White Knight
Her body clings to him
As if he were her last hope
Indeed her only hope
The Lady waits
All is silent except for the sound of tears
The knight holding his hearts desire brushes the tears away
and with a gentle touch closes her eyes
then pulls her close to him
We are trapped for the moment my love
But if you come into my heart you will find
a life rich and full waiting there for you
from there you need not fear the tower
To be free my love we need not travel back
The walls before us are of regret
If we can find peace with our past
The cold stones before us will be the foundation
of a new life
For now rest you have traveled far
He pulls his cloak about her
and rests her head on his chest
The lady looks into his eyes
They kiss as she slips into sleep
The lady awakens in the arms of her knight
Her passions take hold
Her head falls towards him
The knight feels the hot moisture of her breathe
Her dress the color of crimson
Falls open revealing her legs
Which part opening for him
He mounts her thrusting into her
She opens his mouth with her tongue
Drawing the life out of him into her
She feels his seed explode inside her
And cries out
Beloved
Beat, beat, beat
Another heart blends with the ticking of the two
Beat, beat, beat
Slowly the sound rises
It fills the tower walls
Echoing throughout the stones
The Lady arises and blinks for just one moment
And the White Knight vanishes from the tower
Where but moments before he lay below with her
There is no shadow of him, no single trace
Beat, beat, beat
The sound becomes one with her soul
The wizard vanishes in a cloud of vapors
The castle walls begin to crumble
From the resounding of the beat
Beat, beat, beat
The Lady is free from the tower
She stands in an open field
The heartbeat grows louder upon her ears
It deafens her with its cries
She starts to run, feeling her freedom
Across the field of battle
The brush entangles her ..she trips
And falls across the body of the Red Knight
She looks down upon him
She presses her hand against his heart
Beat, beat, beat
He opens his eyes
In the distance a fire burns down to embers
A lone man stands his armor all about him
A cold wind blows his cloak about him
and into the fire he drops a white rose.
He turns his back on pain
he closes his heart
and finds solitude in the still of the night
There are no tears for the loss of trust
there are no words to quench his sadness
in the end he becomes the tower of his own imprisonment
He looks to the white rose in the fire
And sees it turn black before his eyes
I was dead on the battle field
and never knew my fate
A shadow draws across his face
A coldness grows within
When time calls its last ticking
Then regret well have had its last heart
The lady hears a lone wolf call
Echoing across the wild plains
Through the forest it rumbles
The pack begins to hunt
In her mind's eye she sees
The blackened rose whither in the fire's embers
She watches as the sparks rise
Into the night's black sky
The wolves break from the pack
She hears their howling
The man by the fire turns
He knew death was upon him
As his sword struck the first one
He became one with the wild beasts
Feral, maddened by his grief
He knew their plan
The beasts meant to wear him down
They had the strength behind them
It had become a game to them
He slew them all with his great rage
But in the end, he too fell
Sinking to the ground
Bloody, dying
He knew that she knew
Knowing he would die there alone

She left the Red Knight
Who never responded to her pleas
Who never looked up but that once
She fled into the forest
Running now through the fallen leaves
Swifter, faster she ran
And came to the clearing of the wolves
Their bodies lay all about him
His armor bloodied and worn
She knelt beside him
Pulling him back towards the fire
It was there she cared for him
Tended to his wounds
He mumbled incoherently
She stayed till the danger was past
Taking a white rose out of her pocket
She laid it upon his heart
The lady stepped back into the darkness
The forest enveloped her in its blanket of night
The lady runs through the forest
She takes flight, her arms becoming wings of gossamir
Emerald leaves weave into her hair
The lady blazes a trail of desire
Come run with me now
The sky is the color of blue
Never seen in the eyes of her lover
She stops at the edge trembling

The lady stops and looks out over the valley
She watches the sun as it rises
Colors of the new dawn tumble
Mixing purple hues, oranges, setting her heart on fire
Letting all the dreams of her heart free
